We are looking for more volunteers to get involved in this ministry. Training involves a short online session at Greater Austin Senior Assistance and Prepared Meal Delivery Services | Meals on Wheels Central Texas. After the online session there’s a 30 minute zoom session on either Tuesdays or Thursdays.
Peace has been involved in the ministry of Meals on Wheels (MOW) Central Texas for 10 years now. Delivering meals to seniors who are home bound due to disabilities or medical issues has been a rewarding experience for many Peace members and friends. It feels great to give back to the community, to help seniors stay in their homes even when they can no longer cook for themselves.
During the pandemic, MOW suspended the Mon-Fri deliveries for the safety of both clients and volunteers. Instead, every other Friday volunteers have been delivering a 2 week supply of shelf ready meals to our clients. MOW has now determined it will be safe to resume the Mon-Fri deliveries beginning the week of January 24th. Peace’s route will be on Wednesdays, we pick up meals at Bethany United Methodist Church’s parking lot (183 & Anderson Mill Rd) around 11am. The route usually takes about an hour. Volunteers usually deliver meals once every 4-6 weeks.
