is excellent with written communication, organized, detail-oriented, and has some graphic-design or web-design experience or knowledge. This position requires passion for the life of the church and an understanding of (or eagerness to learn about) liturgical worship. This position has the flexibility to allow some work from home, preferably with at least 4 hours in the office most weeks on Thursdays or Fridays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Producing weekly print newsletter:
– Collect and help produce copy for weekly print newsletter.
– Edit submitted copy and send reminders when expected copy is missing
– Handle design, layout, formatting of publication
– Submit draft in a timely manner to volunteers and staff for editorial review
– Arrange for printing of final copy at the end of each week
2. Producing weekly e-mail newsletter with concurrent website updates:
– Use similar content for print newsletter to produce a weekly e-mail with links to website articles about current church events and news
3. Producing worship bulletins:
– Produce publication based on direction from the Worship Planning Committee about once every four weeks (more often at times with special services – i.e. Christmas, Holy Week/Easter)
– Handle design, layout, formatting of publication
– Submit draft in a timely manner to staff and volunteers for editorial review
– Arrange for printing final copy (usually the Friday before the Sunday the bulletin is needed)
– Post on Google Drive relevant documents for the use of worship leaders
4. Produce occasional print mailings for congregation and ensure they are mailed in a timely manner
5. Maintain organized digital filing of all publications on Google Drive
6. As time allows, help strategize and implement broader communications, including social media and advertising
Desired Skills and Experience:
1. Undergraduate degree (degree in Communications, Journalism or Creative Writing is a plus)
2. PR/Communications/Administrative experience (3-5 years experience preferred)
3. Excellent written communication skills
4. Works well on deadlines
5. Proficient in MS Office Software (Publisher, Excel, Word). Experience with Google Applications is a plus
6. Familiar with website content management/editing (Familiarity with WordPress, Mail Chimp preferred)
7. Understanding of Lutheran/mainline Protestant worship
8. Proven success in a self-directed work environment
9. Adept at navigating and leveraging social media, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Yelp
10. Familiarity with Church Windows, Ministry Scheduler Pro or other church-based database systems is a plus
Part-Time: about 15 hours a week starting at $15 an hour
