In response to the current virus outbreak and the recommendations of health professionals and government agencies, we are changing the shape of our community life for a time to avoid in-person contact. We know this is difficult, and that not being able to be physically with one another makes it harder still…It seems counterintuitive not to be together when we most need each other. But out of love for one another, we need to do this…and we will be finding as many new ways as we can to love and support one another during this time.
From now through April 3, we will NOT hold any in-person gatherings, including worship, at the church building, nor will we have public office hours. (This includes the Peace Preschool and events scheduled in the Education Building.) We WILL be offering worship opportunities and ways to gather through digital mediums. Visit the church website and facebook page often for updates and content. Most committees and groups will continue to meet, but will use GoToMeeting teleconferencing. If you are part of a group or committee, you will receive information about how to join meetings in that way.
Your church staff and council will continue working throughout this time – just in new ways to support this alternative way of being a community. Council will be checking in weekly to discuss this public health situation as it evolves. They will meet on March 30, specifically to assess the situation and will announce decisions after that meeting about how we will gather beginning April 5.
We will also be working to make sure we have a strong network of care and connection for those who don’t rely on the internet – with phone calling and providing devotional resources to help offer the spiritual care we all need during this unsettling times. You will be receiving a call from a council member soon to see how you are doing and how church can best support you right now.
You remain always in my prayers.
In Peace,
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea.
– Psalm 46:1-2
