Matthew 6:25-26, 34 : Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
Have you ever read this and just thought, WOW! that is so true. This response is usually generated when things are going well. Then there are those times when you can’t fall asleep or you wake up at 3:00 AM and of course you are worrying. In most cases the cause of the worry is not that serious and often there is nothing you can do about it anyway. It doesn’t matter what the reason is for the worry.
We all worry occasionally. As it is often said “we are only human.” Sometimes the problems may seem trivial but at other times they are serious. Then the worry isn’t there for just a day or two but every day. The stress of this kind of worry can have a severe impact on both mental and physical health. As Christians we all know that we should be taking our problems to God in prayer. We should also never forget that God has already provided resources to help. These resources include family, friends, pastors, counselors, doctors, etc. At Peace we also have your Stephen Ministry Program.
You do not have to worry alone or beat yourself up because you can’t solve a problem. There are some problems we can solve and some we have to leave with God. Ask for a Stephen Minister—someone to listen and walk with you as you confront the issues that are causing you to worry.
If you’d like to learn more about Stephen Ministry for yourself or someone else (inside or outside our congregation), please email stephenministry@peaceaustin.org with your contact information or call the church office and a Stephen Leader will contact you.
