What is music ministry?
Music is a primary language of the people of God at worship. Breathing together, with voice and instrument, voicing the word of God together, sounding joy and praise and lament together, we express and experience the Spirit of the risen Christ. Martin Luther called the music of worship a “handmaiden of the liturgy.” Since liturgy comes from a Greek word meaning “the work of the people,” music of various kinds is crucial in the life of everyone in a faith community. Music is a vehicle for the proclaiming the Gospel, making music an important part of our discipleship as we seek to show people Jesus.
Who offers music ministry at Peace?
Peace Lutheran is blessed with over 60 active musicians of many ages, skill levels and abilities. Children, youth and adults at Peace lead music by singing, playing keyboards, guitars, mandolins, banjos and ukuleles, ringing handbells, playing clarinets, flutes, oboes, violins, cellos, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, french horns, tubas, drums, percussion and praying with and for one another. We now have five groups that lead music throughout the year for 156 Sunday worship services and 7 seasonal services. Many of our musicians offer vocal and instrumental solos, duets, trios.

Vocal
Youth and Adults
The Peace Choir (high school students-adults) offers the gift of music through the voices of adult and youth singers with choral and solo repertory from classical, contemporary, spiritual genres and more. The choir leads worshipers in robust hymn and psalm singing. Rehearsals (fall and spring): Thursday evenings.
Children
Music, children and God are one of the most beautiful combinations. A church is one of the few places today in our culture where people of many ages sing together. This is a primary education of heart and ear for children as they grow in faith. Children at Peace sing together in the music opening of Sunday School at 9:30 am, and for offerings in worship. The Children’s Music Ministry (K-5th grade) rehearses on Wednesday evenings during the school year.
Instrumental
Youth and Adults
Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord! From guitars to clarinets, from flutes to cellos, from trumpets to percussion and more, the Peace Orchestra (middle and high school students-adults) play four to five times a year and meet on Saturday mornings for several weeks prior to playing in Sunday worship.
Handbells
Youth and Adults
Ring out your joy! The Youth Ringers (middle and high school students) and Adult Ringers play 3 octaves of English handbells monthly in worship. Handbell teams are fun and provide a safe and comfortable environment for close relationships and witness through the art of handbell ringing. Using various techniques, these groups offer hymn and song settings, anthems and augmentation to worship. Rehearsals (fall and spring).
